No. The *root* controller is instantiated as often as that. But
clearly all sub-controllers ar class-attributes, thus they aren't
instantiated more than once per process.
Is that wierd? Certainly. If you insist, just make the root-controller

Hi all,
When running a tg2 app with "paster serve", I was expecting controller
objects to be instantiated once per worker thread.
However, when I add logging to BaseController.__init__, it seems that
the full hierarchy of controller objects is instantiated once per
request.
E.g. when I exercised my app with ab -c 100 -n 1000 (100 concurrent

I've skimmed the docs at both TG and Pylons websites and I'm just not
getting it apparently....
I get all sorts of good logging and tracing when I run my app from

You don't, Patricio misunderstood your question.
The answer is something like this (untested)
from sqlalchemy.sql import *
DBSession.execute(select([Invo ice.date], distinct=True))
It might be that distinct=True is wrong, but instead is a separate call, like
select([...]).distinct().
Check the SQLAlchemy-docs on this.

Sorry i didn't understand the example
i want to select a distinct list of dates from all of my invoices
why do i need to filter by id=1 or by id<now() ?

I'll see if I can get better logging, but what I can't understand is
this... I am supposedly using the same database session, so it really
shouldn't matter at all whether the commit has occurred or not.... so
long as the flush has occurred I should be able to see it using the
same session, but I can't... there is some (weird) processing going on

Aha, I see that you are correct. I apologize for missing that.
What's going on here is actually quite simple: TG is running the requests.
The renderer returns the data to the requester. After the data is returned,
the request itself gets torn down. It's during the tear down process that
the database commit occurs. Your code is asking for the object before that

My database is, in fact, being torn down and rebuilt between tests (I
thought this was standard implementation for tg/pylons/paste).
However, this problem is not occurring *between* tests. This is all
part of the *same* test (see test code above).
Any ideas?
Can anyone point me to some sort of "nosetest" documentation for tg/

Another option to consider: If you use tgext.menu, you get a nice navbar for
free, jquery gets used, and you can find the URLs for anything by looking up
the name of the menu that points to the URL.
[link] and it's on PyPI, so can be
easy_installed.

If this is the problem I think it is, then it has been addressed with the
2.6 series.
One of the dependencies (Extremes) is incompatible with Python 2.6 unless
you have at least 1.1 installed. The easy way to get everything done
properly on Ubuntu is as follows:
virtualenv --no-site-packages /path/to/my/venv

Since this is in testing code, is it possible that your database is being
torn down and rebuilt between tests, thus removing your testing data that
you are expecting to find?

No idea abou thte specifics of your problem, but that Windows error message
usually indicates:
1) a missing or unregistered DLL
2) the Visual Studio redistributable runtime package is either missing or is
the wrong version
