  Thanks but none of those suggestions help. &lt;br&gt; I&#39;m already using the custom partition layout. &lt;br&gt; It always comes up with that same error. &lt;br&gt; As before, a SCSI disk on an Adaptec controller with an &lt;br&gt; IDE CDROM connected to the onboard IDE controller. &lt;br&gt; What could be wrong with that?

  Use the custom partitioner in the installer, don&#39;t use the defaults. &lt;br&gt; partition it as follows, &lt;br&gt; /	16Bytes &lt;br&gt; swap	1X your DRAM size, you can use less if you want, 1G is probably &lt;br&gt; sufficient. &lt;br&gt; /home	The remainder of your space.

  Those appear to be previous-version backup copies of files &lt;br&gt; edited using emacs. &lt;br&gt; No they do not. The tilde is a part of the filename. &lt;br&gt; What you might want to do is: &lt;br&gt; $ mv *.c *.c~ backups1/ &lt;br&gt; probably &amp;quot;safer&amp;quot; is: &lt;br&gt; $ mv *.c* backups1/
