Since eSpeak supports use in different languages there must be ways of
influencing the sounds it produces. A quick google shows me that it has
voice and language and phoneme and pronounciation files. Has the original
poster experimented with all of those?
Failing that, why not ask the author?

The fact that it's not yet well documented 'HOW2flyLikeaBird'
doesn't stop zillion of us 'would like to'.
Following Henning Bekel's route with slight modifications
got me the best results so far:--
The strings returned by 'read' aren't good for inputrc
Yes, I want X > bash, so it's good.

Sounds and images tend to not to be embedded on Linux based systems, so
are stored as separate files. These are easily identifiable using the 'file'
command.
If there is stuff embedded in a container, hopefully there are tools to
unpack it, (as there are tools to pack it), but I haven't looked at

Right so maybe we need different some additional digraphs and trigraphs
for variant phonic sounds.
I would expect 'espeak sled' to pronounce the word sled as it would be
pronounced in the current locale.
Here in the West Midlands (England), the eh in sled is the normal phonic
for the letter e, whereas the 'ee' in 'see' is the long sound that names

but, the "normal phonics" include several different sounds for each of
those letters...only the sound of their name remains constant..
for example, 'e' is always named 'ee' (according to you) but the 'e'
in 'see' doesn't sound at all like the 'e' in 'sled'..
and, 'ice' in Detroit doesn't sound like 'ice' in Memphis..
